Real Life with Pastor Steve
October 6, 2023
Be different. Do the right thing, even when it is unpopular. Even when you take heat for it. Even when doing the wrong thing is so much easier.
Ahhh… but there’s that little issue of what or who determines what is “right.” Everyone has their own standard or definition. And everyone feels that they are right don’t we?
So, there has to be a solid benchmark for what is right. Which Jesus defines as what honors God… what is “righteous”… what truly helps, encourages and lifts up other people… what reduces injustice… what brings life and hope and compassion to the hurting… what looks like self-control, and not excess… what is kind, and not rude or arrogant… what is consistent with His character – the character of Jesus. A life that chooses and values integrity and morality and fidelity. But also a life that chooses grace and forgiveness… rather than criticism and judgement… when people mess up.
That’s doing the right… the righteous thing. And in His last beatitude, Jesus says He has wonderful news for those who walk this way. But more accurately… for those whose lives have been transformed by God to live this way. That in spite of the opposition, in spite of the temptation to take an easier route… it will be worth it in the end. The kingdom of heaven belongs to you! And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
