    Real Life With Pastor Steve

If you only see what you want to see, and hear what you want to hear, you will never know what you need to know. ~ Steve Rowe

We all have our blind spots, things we cannot see clearly without a little help.  However, there is such a thing as “willful blindness.”  It’s when we hold to something… a worldview… a position on something… a decision… a religion… our health… and when true evidence comes out that contradicts us… we have our minds made up.  Don’t confuse us with the facts.

For some it’s simply a state of denial… when in reality they simply do not want to deal with what is happening.  For others, it’s more of a root problem… something selfish deep down inside of us that does not want to admit that we are wrong.  That can even trickle into our everyday relationships.

Apparently, even the people in Jesus’ day struggled with this.  As Jesus often spoke to people, He would constantly say… may you have eyes to see and ears to hear.  Why?  Because there was stuff they (and we) needed to know – life and death stuff.  May we not close ourselves off before we even hear it, remaining blind.  May we see our blind spots that God is revealing, make the course correction, and follow the heart of Jesus and His example. You too can say, “I was blind, but now I see.”  And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
