When kingdoms collide… how does one achieve victory over another?

Your “kingdom”… may be your person, your room, your family, your church, your business, your influence in a community, your role in governing (from local to national levels), your nation or country. Any number of examples.  In a perfect world, everyone would live in peace with each other.  But sometimes, one kingdom wants to impose their will upon another.  And they start with a simple show of strength, force, “saber rattling.”  Then if that doesn’t work, it escalates to intimidation, threats, manipulation,  brut force, sometimes even violence.  It’s how individuals are hurt and abused in our society… it is how bullies try to keep people in line… it is how wars get started.  Is it any wonder on the night that Jesus was betrayed, the night before the cross… His accusers and betrayers came with weapons as a show of strength and their authority.  What’s ironic here… is that Jesus’ kingdom and authority was bigger… yet He never used that card.  And when Peter took out his “sword” to try to defend Jesus, Jesus told Peter to put it away.  Because God’s kingdom life is not advanced through bullying, threats, force, or violence… but rather through serving… through love… and ultimately… through the cross.  That’s real victory.   And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
