Obstacles (hurdles) are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” – Henry Ford.

  I have enjoyed watching my son and his friends run track the last couple of years. I’ve always thought that one of the craziest events in track, are the hurdles.  I mean, why intentionally place an obstacle (several actually) … on a perfectly good track!  I have a hard enough time just running.  But put a hurdle in my way?  Uh uh.  I am as good as falling flat on my face.  And yet I watch these teenagers jump over them like they are nothing… keeping their eyes on the prize, the goal, the finish line.    

  The reality is… we all have hurdles and obstacles placed in our lives every day.  And quite often, we just turn them into excuses for not doing the right thing… sometimes, not doing anything at all.  We stare… eyes focused on the obstacle… rather than on the goal, on the bigger picture… rather than on living with integrity and doing the right thing.  

  The same thing happens with Jesus.  We all have hurdles or obstacles that we could point to, that prevents us from a relationship with Him… or walking in His ways.  And yet, if we were to focus on the goal, on the prize, on the bigger picture… we could actually overcome them.
