Do NOT go in there!  It stinks in there…

No… this is not the famous line from Ace Ventura, Pet Detective! LOL

This is actually a paraphrase of Martha in the Bible, right after Jesus requested that the stone be rolled away from her dead brother’s tomb.

It had been four days since Lazarus died.  And in the intense Middle Eastern heat, a body decomposes rather quickly.  Opening up a tomb after four days was just asking for it… unless you are Jesus.

Jesus had just declared that He is the resurrection and the life, in the present tense.

Now, Jesus was about to merge resurrection with death… and death stands no match.  The tomb is opened, and instead of a stench, out walks Lazarus, fully alive and restored.

What’s “dead” in your life that’s begun to stink?  Are you resistant, as Martha was, to open that area up to Jesus, because you’re afraid of the “smell?”   There’s no match for death in the presence of the resurrection.

Would you allow Jesus to breathe new life into your smelly, dead places?  Give you new hope, new purpose, and new direction? Roll away the stone and let Him into your heart.  And that’s …real life. ~ Pastor Steven Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
