Real Life with Pastor Steve

The church… is it just an outdated, out-of-touch, detached institution of guilt, shame, and bondage… controlled by a few… and only concerned about itself?
Or… is the church where people find hope, restoration? Where people find authentic connections – with God and other people? Where people are empowered, not controlled? Where people are genuinely concerned about others? Throughout much of my life, including my years serving as a pastor, I have wrestled with those questions. My heart yearns to be that second list, but I so often fall short. However, I find hope in this … Jesus established the church, and He still desires for us to be the church we were called to be. The church is not a building… but a people. A people who gather often in a building, and obviously represented in a variety of local expressions. But first and foremost… a people… a family… a body… a community. People transformed by Jesus… that connect with God and one another. A diverse people who are empowered to serve within and outside of that body… and are called to leave a loving, life-giving, Christ-honoring impact both locally and beyond. Only we can change the narrative. We may be imperfect, but may we become more like Jesus. Whatever your tradition… may we be that kind of church. And that’s …real life. ~ Pastor Steven Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
