What would you do if you found a wallet that did not belong to you? – ethics question

Well… it depends on how much cash was in it right!  LOL!!!  Cash or no cash, credit cards or no credit cards… most of us would realize that nothing in that wallet belongs to us, and that it needed to be returned to its rightful owner.

There’s no rule that says “finders keepers, losers weepers” in a situation like this. So, what would we do?  We would look for some form of ID, a drivers license, with the image of the owner, and some contact information.

Then we would contact the owner, arrange a meeting, and return it back into their care.

That makes sense to us.  Returning something that does not belong to us… specifically to the person to whom it belongs… is common courtesy, it is loving and gracious, and it is sacrificing potential personal gain for a higher purpose.  And we get that… in that case.

But let me ask you… did you know that you… you are made in the image of God.  You are God’s “wallet” so to speak… which means a few things.  We do not belong to ourselves… and our lives belong to our God.  The question is… will you offer your life back to the original owner? And that’s …real life.   ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
