Real Life with Pastor Steve

If you choose not to use an object for what it was designed for, it can either do tremendous harm… or simply be completely ineffective. Either way, you completely miss its purpose.
You can take this a lot of ways and give many different examples, can’t you? For instance, toasters can make great toast… but they make lousy frisbees. Hamburgers and fries make a great meal… but they make a lousy diet if that’s all you ever ate. A glass of Cabernet makes a great pairing with a steak… but it makes a lousy way to deal with life’s problems. Technology is a great way to make things more efficient… but it often gets used to facilitate addictions, social isolation, and can become a waste of time. And just one more, Church is a great way to connect with God and others… but it is often a place where neither connection takes place, a place of greater shame and condemnation. You get the point. Jesus felt the same way. He said His house was supposed to be a house of prayer, but it had been turned into a den of robbers who just took advantage of people. He then very emphatically made the changes necessary to reestablish the original purpose. It was a foreshadowing of His call to us as humanity to rediscover our original purpose. May we stop missing the point. May we love God, and love others. And that’s… real life. ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
