“If you do not know where you are going, every road will get you nowhere.” ~ Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State
Where are you headed in life? What would you like to accomplish? What kind of person would you like to become? Do you have any goals that you are currently trying to pursue? Because, goals naturally lead to action. Once you know where you’d like to end up, you can begin to take steps to get there. It is our desired destination that determines our trajectory.
As the Story of Scripture unfolds, we see that it is a journey that is taking us somewhere. We begin in the Garden of Eden, when this Creation was free from any corruption. And then we see how sin and death impact this Creation. And then we begin the long journey towards New Creation. God had an original desire for us when He created us, and God has not given up on that plan. And so, the long story of sin and salvation, separation and forgiveness, failure and renewal, is taking us somewhere.
What we believe about our final destination will impact how we choose to live, here and now. If we believe that the goal is simply escape this fallen world, that will cause us to live one way – whereas, if we believe that God still has a purpose and a future for this world, that will cause us to live another way. Our desired destination that determines our trajectory.
And that’s… real life. ~ Arnie Boedecker, Associate Pastor – Eaglebrook Church
