  Listening… it does not come easily does it? In our rapidly paced world, we’ve conditioned ourselves to change gears every 30 seconds.  We’re used to sound bites and quick summaries. 

  Then once the sound bite is over, we want to speak… share our opinion about it.  And along the way we forget how to really listen. 

  However… life does not unfold that way.  People do not speak that way.  Relationships are not built that way.  If we are too quick to speak… too quick to share our opinion… too quick to tune someone out… then we are going to miss something important, something precious … we are going to miss really “hearing” someone… learning from them. 

  The same thing happens regarding humanity’s interaction with God.  We’re so busy talking… so busy doing… that we’re not listening.

  One afternoon, Jesus – God Himself in human form, came to visit the home of Mary & Martha with his disciples.  Martha was busy, and she had a lot to say.  But Mary, sat at the feet of Jesus… soaking in every word He had to say.  Yes… there is a time to work.  However, there’s also a time to listen.  And it’s through listening that shapes our response… and properly defines our “work.” And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
