Real Life with Pastor Steve

Who you choose to fellowship with … break bread with… and who you choose not to… reveals more about you… than about the other people.
Tell me… is there someone, or a type of person, or a group or category of people that you can think of… that you can say… “I would not break bread with… share a meal with… them.” Why? Quit often, it’s because there may be a behavior or a value system or philosophy that is completely at odds with yours… and you just don’t want to give the impression that you are somehow giving your “approval.” We’ve all been there. Other times it’s more unconscious. We just tend to be drawn to people more like us… it’s not an overt snub, just a preference of who we want to spend our time with. So … let’s ask this question: Is there a difference between a holy, perfect God… and us? Yes. And yet… Jesus not only broke bread with “known sinners,” but he shared the first “communion table” with a very diverse lot of very imperfect people – most of which did not like each other. His presence with them did not “approve” of any of that. Rather, it was a way to demonstrate love, to learn how to connect and fellowship across a wide diversity, to build character, to build the foundation for unity, and to call every-one to a higher purpose. Whether at church, work, or home, let’s re-learn that. And that’s … real life. ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
