Thankfulness and gratitude are not dependent upon circumstances… they are attitudes and actions of a secure heart… based upon the character of God.
As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday this year, you may feel challenged to find something to be thankful for. Trust me, you are not alone. I feel it too. It has been a tough year in so many ways. However, may we learn from history. See, even the Ancient Nation of Israel felt that way at times. But it had not just been a few days or weeks… this had been going on for almost 400 years. That’s almost double how long the United States has even been in existence, and much longer than how COVID has impacted our world. That’s a long time not to be thankful or to express thankfulness! But that was all about to change. David, the man after God’s own heart, had just been anointed King of Israel. And he knew exactly how to address this issue. He took their eyes off their circumstances, their problems, and placed them squarely upon God… and declared “Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name... Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” May we do the same. Giving thanks is not a feeling, it is a choice. Because in Him… we always have something to be thankful for. And it trickles into every other area of our lives! Let’s truly… give thanks! And that’s…real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe– Eaglebrook Church
