Gratitude… is an attitude … of thankfulness

Being thankful begins in the heart, and then comes out in our words.  In an angry world where more and more people are cynical and prone to criticism, gratitude and expressing thankfulness is becoming a rare occurrence. That’s why… when it happens… it is so life giving.  Cynicism and criticism suck the life of out you… and everyone around you.  But gratefulness, gratitude, and saying “thank you” is life-giving to people.  And it starts because your own heart is alive, and not all “dark and twisty.”

It’s no wonder that throughout the scriptures, thankfulness starts by aligning our heart with God… now of course, fulfilled in Jesus. Why? Because Jesus is the light, and He is love, and He is “life.”  Start there… and it changes your perspective.

Irritability is replaced with grace.  Being surly is replaced with being kind.  Being unappreciative is replaced with speaking words of thanks.

As we head into the holiday of Thanksgiving next week, start now.  Start counting your blessings and thank God for them.  Begin to find ways to thank others around you.  Maybe it’s just a simple task they’ve done well that helped you.  Maybe it is something large and significant.  Find the good, speak life, and be thankful.   And that’s…real life. ~Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
