Those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it. ~ famous quote

Human beings have this incredible knack… to keep trying something that has been tried before… or repeating mistakes from the past… but expecting to get a different result.  Either it is out of sheer ignorance, or denial, or maybe the arrogance that this time it will be different.  I have done this on so many occasions in my life.  Maybe you have too.  Nations have done it, often leading to war.  Organizations and businesses do it, often leading to a series of bad decisions and outcomes.  People do it all the time in their choices in relationships, or how they operate within relationships.  And yes, people of faith, even followers of Jesus can fall into this trap. What is the answer?

We need to learn from the mistakes of others.  We need to see history, including our own, as a treasure chest of wisdom… of what to do, and what not to do.  I find it fascinating that God did not whitewash either the Old Testament scriptures, nor what would be recorded as the New Testament.  He left in all the mistakes of His people.  And the Apostle Paul tells us why… so we can learn from them… and not repeat them.  So, we can chart a new course, a better course.  It still may not be perfect… but at least it will be wise! And that’s … real life! ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
