Whenever there is a conflict of desires, impulses, reasons, or responses… what steps in and umpires that decision in our lives?  John Lightfoot, Theologian 

  Now… for some of us it may be our emotions.  For others it may be a reaction to the past.  For others… it may be your mother-in-law! 

  But seriously, when situations arise in our lives… whether it’s a temptation… or a crisis… or a conflict with an irritating person… or whatever it may be… is there something that steps in to umpire the decision?

  An umpire makes the call, and the call is final… disagree or not.  We can even pull a Billy Martin and kick dirt all over the umpire, get thrown out of the game… but the call of the umpire stands. 

  That’s just part of the game of baseball, an imperfect umpire.  However, in the game of life, we have an umpire who is perfect, and who makes the right call every time… if we will only listen, and let the call stand.

  The Apostle Paul tells us to let the “Peace of Christ rule, or ‘umpire,’ in our hearts.  When temptation comes, what’s the call?  When a crisis hits, or the conflict comes, what’s the call? Who makes the call?  It’s not easy, and maybe we’ll feel like Billy Martin sometimes, but would we let the Peace of Christ “umpire” in our hearts?
