Come meet this motley crew of misfits, these liars and these thieves… There's no one unwelcome here. ~ Lyric from “Come to the Table” by Sidewalk Prophets

What kind of place does that sound like?  A local bar?  A mafia hangout? The circus?  You might be surprised … that it is supposed to describe the church.  Quite often, the message that’s conveyed is the opposite.  That if you have “issues”, if you are not perfect, if your past is not pristine, if you are not of the right race... then you are not welcome here.  However, the invitation that Jesus gave… the invitation to be forgiven, changed, to have your relationship with God restored, and as a result, become part of God’s kingdom family… what we refer to as the “church”… is given to everyone.  There is no one unwelcome here.  There is a story in the Old Testament about a young crippled man, who was the ancestor to King Saul.  When David took the throne after Saul’s death, not only did he feel that he would never be welcome again, he actually feared for his life.  But David sought him out.  A potential enemy as an heir to the former king.  A cripple.  And yet David welcomed him, restored him, gave him a place at the table. Because that is the heart of God.  That is the fruit of true freedom.  Would you… come to the table… and invite others to join you.  There’s no one unwelcome here! And that’s…real life.  ~Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
