"I do the very best I know how, the very best I can, and I mean to keep doing it until the end.” ~ Abraham Lincoln, 36th US President
Why do you do what you do? What are your motives for doing anything? See, difficult seasons challenge all the “why’s” in our lives. As we put 2020 in our rear-view mirror, and start living in 2021, we should all do a heart check in this area.
I mean, we often think that we can get by with less than our best… right? Countries are not going to go to war if we don’t finish our task. The economy won’t turn around tomorrow if suddenly we give a little extra effort in life.
So… what’s our motivation for doing what’s right… for doing our best? The Apostle Paul tells Christians that in any and every area of life – how we live is a reflection of God. We represent the Lord Jesus at work … while we’re eating at a restaurant… in how we treat our employees… even how we interact with our spouse and children. We live “right”, do “good” … simply because it is good. See, as we do everything as unto the Lord… it changes our motivation. It becomes far easier at that point to give our best… to simple “do” what is right. And as God’s representatives in this fallen, crazy, sullen, and unpredictable world – we get to provide a little sanity, a little hope, a little life, from a heart at peace. May it be so in our lives this year! And that’s …real life. ~ Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
