Our behavior… reveals who we really are… not just who we say we are.

Now yes, words are important.  What we say is important.  The problem is… words are easy.  As the old saying goes… talk is cheap.  Because at the end of the day… we will do… what our hearts really want to do… regardless of what we’ve said.  So the question is… what kind of heart do we have? For example… you cannot just say “I’m sorry… sorry for hurting and offending you… sorry for breaking promise after promise.”  You cannot just say “I won’t do it again next time,” referring to another drunken binge, or whatever a person’s vice may be.  Behavior… reveals who we really are… and what we really want to do.  In other words, a changed life… changed behavior… is proof that those words are true. Or… how about this.  You cannot, or should not claim to be something… without having the behavior to back it up.  It is probably not a good idea to say, “I’m Batman” in the middle of an armed robbery.  Your behavior after that will prove you are not, catastrophically.  Behavior means something.  The same is true with being a Christian… a follower of Jesus. That claim… those words… require behavior to back it up.  Pure, holy, righteous… yet loving, gentle, full of grace, yielded to His Spirit, looking more like Jesus.  Behavior matters. And that’s … real life.  ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
