The real measure of our wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all of your money. ~ John Henry Jowett, 1800’s British pastor

A great follow up to that would be… “A person’s true wealth is the good he does in this world.”  These are not statements about economics… these are statements about what is truly valuable.  As important as money and resources are to keep an economy moving… quite often, the human race places far too much value on it… as a sign of status, success.  Jesus warned us about this.  The Apostle Paul echoed those thoughts.  And James, in his letter, says the same thing.  It’s ok to have wealth… but it is NOT ok for wealth to have you.  It is neither good, nor evil… but it can be used for good or evil. James says that wealth is short-lived (in light of eternity)… like a blade of grass.  But people… live on forever.  Folks, you… and all those around you… are incredibly valuable, the vessel of true wealth… with or without any money. You are made in God’s image in your original design, and worth redeeming and restoring by Jesus. So, may we find comfort & security in our value. And… may we NOT use people and love money. May we simply use money, and love and value people. May we be… like Jesus.  And that’s …real life. ~ Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
