    Real Life with Pastor Steve

    February 26, 2021

True change starts by listening… but then by doing, putting action behind what we’ve learned.

This applies to so many areas of our lives.  In education for example, we are not born with inherent knowledge.  We have to be willing to be humble enough to listen… to learn… then to put it into practice.  In other words, we change. The same thing is true in conflict between people, or overcoming an addiction or bad habit, or solving a problem at work, or even in our relationship with God.  We start with the reality that we do not currently have the solution, and we need one.  Therefore, we need to humble ourselves enough to listen… to learn… to see what needs to be done.  And then we need to take the necessary steps to move toward that solution, that remedy, that reconciliation.  Again, we change. If we do not change, grow, and put into practice what we’ve learned, start new patterns, good habits… then it’s no better than looking into a mirror to find that your hair is a mess, but then walking away and forgetting about it… never doing anything about it. That’s actually the very thing that the New Testament writer, James, tells us.  We are not just to listen to Jesus, but to actually live out what He says… living out the gospel.  And in so doing, we change, and rediscover our true humanity.  And that’s …real life. ~ Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
