Real Life with Pastor Steve

There will always be people who will shame you, criticize you, vilify you, even bully you… if you do not embrace their opinions and preferences.  Do not stoop to their level, and do not measure yourself by them. ~ The Apostle Paul (paraphrase from Colossians 2)

   It starts in grade school.  Someone or some group decides what is best for everyone else… what is cool… what is “in”… what makes you “better” than others.  But the problem is… that same behavior seems to carry into our adult lives.  We just call it different things. 

  It happens in the workplace, in our education systems, in the political arena, in the towns and cities where we live.  It even happens in the church.  One issue is… people can no longer tell the difference between opinions, preferences – which are generally fine, in and of themselves… and a universal truth… something that is true for all people in all times.  The other issue is… we then demand allegiance to those opinions and preferences, even by way of threats.  There has to be a better way.

  The truth is, you may never be able to change those people.  The Apostle Paul tells us to look elsewhere to find our validation… to find it … in Jesus.  We can then find our response… in Jesus.  We can love, serve, pray for, and bless people… all people.  It does not make you better than others… it is just the better way.  And that’s…real life.  ~ Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
