    Real Life with Pastor Steve

    February 17, 2023

When you feel that you are missing out on something, you are the most susceptible… to being deceived… or… to at least make an irrational or illogical choice.

We’ve all been there.   At one moment, we are totally fine and content with life.  Then all of a sudden… there it is.  Or… there they are.  Sure, it does not make sense in the moment, but we are convinced that our life would be better off if we just made that choice.  After all, we “deserve” more right?  At least, that’s what we tell ourselves.  Or we feel that life, or people in our lives, or even God… has been holding out on us.  That we’ve been missing out.  This is our chance to take control of our destiny.  However, we do not see the consequences or repercussions until afterwards.  The mountain of debt… the broken relationships… our damaged lungs or liver… getting fired from a job… or even worse.  That was Adam & Eve’s first mistake.  They felt they were missing out… that God was holding out on them.  And they were easily deceived.  The human race has been paying the price ever since.

Fortunately, there is grace for mistakes.  There is a cure for deception.  The Apostle Paul tells us that if you have Jesus, you are not missing out on anything. Contentment at the deepest level, that helps us keep our focus at every other level. And the world, and those around you … are better off for it. And that’s…real life.  ~ Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
