Joy to the world… the Lord is come.  Let earth receive her king! ~ lyrics from a favorite Christmas carol

What brings you joy? Many things come to mind for me… family, seeing people thrive and succeed, the Lions beating the Bears.  Maybe for you, it is hunting, going shopping, reconnecting with a friend, or the Packers beating the Bears.

However, if we are honest… that which brings the most joy in our lives has something to do with a relationship… the people we love and care about the most.  It becomes even greater joy when an estranged relationship has been restored.  Or when a child is found after they were lost or got separated at a store. Those moments would bring some serious joy!  It would not matter what else was going on at the moment.  That joy exceeds everything else.

That’s the true context of what is happening the night that Jesus was born.  The earth, and all the people on it… had been estranged from their creator God for nearly 4000 years.  The most important of all relationships… separated.  We were lost.  But through the advent of Jesus…the King is here. We have been “found.” The cause of our separation would be defeated.  Rescue had arrived.  Estrangement could be over, restoration made possible.  First between God and man… then between each other.  Truly… joy to the world!  Let earth receive her King!  And that’s …real life. ~ Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
