Real Life with Pastor Steve

One of the most common ways we mistreat people, is not through overt acts of meanness, or even words… but in merely taking people for granted.
It is so subtle, initially unintentional. However, the people impacted are left with the sting. Most often, it is merely a matter of being overly familiar with someone or something. We forget that the wonderful things they do, and who they are … are a gift to us … not a right. We forget to be courteous or thankful, or appreciative. Other times, it’s when we are in a large group of very different people, and we simply “connect” with those we have more in common with. Nothing wrong with that… until… those we have less in common with … no longer have “room at the table.” They become overlooked, and simply… taken for granted. That’s what was happening in 1st century Corinth… in the church. And believe it or not, it happened on days they were taking the “Lord’s Supper” or “communion.” It was meant to be a shared meal, but some arrived early and ate without them. Sometimes, they ate and drank everything there… leaving the others out. The Apostle Paul reminded them, and reminds us… may we be aware and thankful for others. May we leave room at the table. May we not take others for granted. And that’s …real life. ~ Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
