When it comes to following Jesus and seeking God, we can often replace what really matters with other things. The Jews in the first century had replaced following God with following the Torah, the Law that God gave to them. And in our own day, instead of knowing and following Jesus, we can easily replace Him with a number of things that are closely related to Him… things like church activity, having correct doctrine, or even trying to follow the Bible. We cling to these things because we think they are important, but often, we still somehow end up losing the one thing that really matters – God Himself.
