Wonder or awe - the feeling that arises when you are confronted with something so strikingly vast in number, scope, or complexity that it alters the way you view the world.  (Basic definition)

For some of us that grew up in the city… like me… it was the first time we actually saw the stars in the night sky. Breathtaking awe.  And although I’ve seen it hundreds of times now, it still gives me a sense of awe.  I never want to lose that.

There are several other examples… such as hearing a piece of music, seeing a rainbow, or a vast mountain range… or a waterfall like Niagara Falls. It could be watching an athlete or sports figure… whose talent transcends the sport. It could be the birth of a baby.  So many things.

Whatever it is… there is this moment of deep appreciation, of honor, of joy.  Don’t lose the wonder and awe of those moments.  It’s what keeps us humble and grounded.

And the same should be said of God… the one who created the stars.  The one who gave athletes and surgeons their gifts. The one who gave us life.  We should continue to be awe of all He has done… all He is doing… and all He will do.  Then we can express our appreciation and gratitude to Him.  We can honor Him.  And we experience a true depth of joy… as it keeps us humble and grounded.  May we never lose our sense of awe & wonder!  And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
