  It’s crazy when you think about it.  We are capable of making some pretty bone-headed decisions, sometimes destructive decisions … to our own lives and the lives of others… simply because of insecurity.  Insecurity causes us to do things that “rationally” we would never do.  It causes us to seek the approval of others… even to get involved in risky behavior because we don’t want to be the “odd-man-out.” Not only that, but bullies do not bully others because they are confident… it is because they are insecure and have the need to feel powerful over someone or something.   That applies to bullies on the playground… or bullies that are adults and run corporations or even nations.  And as a result, other people, often innocent people are hurt, sometimes fatally.  That described the first century King… Herod Agrippa… perfectly.  Though “king” of Israel, he felt the existence of the followers of Jesus threatened his rule.  So due to his insecurity, he had the Apostle James, the brother of John killed… to try to impress his constituents.  They approved… so his plan was to kill Peter next. Ironically, Herod’s continued insecurities led to his own death, while Peter… and the security he had in Christ, overcame it and lived on.
