Real Life
With Pastor Steve

It seems that God often stretches us beyond our comfort zone, but either we yield and grow… or we resist, and either shrink or break.
Either way it’s uncomfortable, right? So, it’s best to lean into it and grow … becoming stronger in the process. Even athletes know that you need to stretch before and after any major physical activity… otherwise you are a likely to pull something or sustain some injury. Stretching actually prepares us for whatever it is in our lives that lies ahead (which God already knows about and is simply helping us get there).
See, for some, believing in God is a stretch. For others, believing that Jesus is that God is a bigger stretch. Then there’s all the stuff Jesus calls us to… loving our enemies, being kind to everyone, seeing every race as equal, being compassionate to those most vulnerable, living with integrity, understanding what truly is important, and what is not. Those are a stretch.
Well, even the Apostle Peter was not immune to being stretched. Eat ham or bacon? Never. Eat dinner with a Gentile in their home? No way. Two things that used be standards of “holiness” or “obedience.” But those days served their purpose, and now, through Christ, Peter could enjoy both, while sharing the gospel. It was a stretch, but he did it. Where is God stretching you these days? And that’s … real life. ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
