And they lived happily ever after! The end. ~ The ending of every good fairy tale.
And to be honest, that’s how we all would like for things to turn out in our lives, right? Blue skies, smooth sailing, no conflict, endless bliss. However, we know… that “happily ever after” is really only the beginning… it is just the start. We even have a phrase for it when people first get hired in a new job… or just get married… or just enter into a new relationship. We call it… the honeymoon phase. Even the early church at the end of Acts chapter 2 had one. Everything is wonderful, there’s tons of grace, the conflicts are minimal. But then there’s that one comment… that one event… that one missed deadline that you get the blame for… and we say “Yup… the honeymoon is over.” The problem is, a lot of people just try to live from honeymoon to honeymoon. Because real life and perseverance take a lot of work, and many people aren’t willing to put forth the effort. However, people with character… people with commitment … people who are quick to learn and forgive, and quick to admit their own mistakes … endure way past the honeymoon phase. And it’s there where things grow and mature and become something special. Life and relationships will not always be a honeymoon… so instead, build on a solid foundation that will last after it’s over. And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
