It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. ~ The Apostle Paul
This weekend we celebrate America’s independence… it’s freedom from an outside governing power, the country of England. But freedom from something means that you are also free “to” something… to be something you were not allowed to be before.
And with freedom comes incredible responsibility. Freedom does not mean license to live any way we see fit… that would be anarchy. And over a couple hundred years of history have shown our struggles as a nation to live in that unique balance… but it is so worth it.
Well, long before America was founded, Jesus provided a freedom that goes to the depth of our human condition. He set us free from the yoke, or the burden of sin… our slavery to our sinful condition… and our conscription of judgment. He’s paid for it… no we just have to receive it.
But Christ has not only set us free “from” something, He has made us free “to” something. He set us … not to live any way we want… be to live the way we were originally created. We are free to love the way He loves, free to serve the way He serves, free to forgive, free to be pure, free to be something we could have never been before. So here’s to celebrating our freedom – two-fold – this weekend! And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
