Mercy… it’s something we all want and need when it’s us… but it is something much more difficult to show to others, or to accept when God shows it to others.

We’ve all been “that” person.  The person who says or does something… whether knowingly or unknowingly… that brings some level of harm… either to ourselves… or to others.  At the time we think nothing of it… but then we hear something… see something… different… better. We realize we were wrong, and that we need mercy.  Maybe from ourselves.  Maybe from others.  Maybe from God.   Mercy received is a precious gift.

But other times… we look at others. Others who may have hurt us personally.  Or just other people who act in ways that are socially and morally reprehensible.  And quite often, even if they had a “wake up” moment… it’s difficult for us to show mercy.  It’s even difficult for us to see God show them mercy.  That’s what happened with our friend, Jonah, in the Old Testament. Even after he survived the whale, he was not happy that the people of Nineveh repented, and that God showed His love and mercy to them. And yet, that’s what God does.  He loves first, and shows mercy first… extending it to all who will receive it.  If you’ve been blessed by His mercy… then may we then extend that mercy to others.   And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
