Question of the day… what makes you cry?
These could be happy tears, tears of joy… or tears of sorrow, grief, pain, sadness. Each one of us has a trigger point. We cry at both weddings and funerals... at graduations… in moments of great triumph… and in moments of great heartache. Some people cry… after an election if it does not go your way. Some people cry when something beautiful gets defaced or destroyed. We cry more as we get older, as our rough spots become a bit more tender. Or… if you’re like me… you can cry over just about anything – a song, a scene in a movie, or a touching TV commercial. I’m just a big sap, what can I say?
However, have you ever asked the question, or thought about… what makes God cry? To find out… we just need to look at Jesus. What made Jesus cry? One, was death – the death of His friend Lazarus, and the toll death has on humanity. Two, was anguish – in the Garden of Gethsemane, over what it would take to fix this broken world. And three, Jesus cried tears of sorrow over Jerusalem… on behalf of others… over those who would reject Him, and thus reject their only hope for reconciliation. Jesus understands why we cry. God cries, because God loves, God cares, which is our theme this Sunday! And that’s … real life. ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
