    Real Life with Pastor Steve

I could be the smartest, most knowledgeable, most gifted, most talented, maybe even the most generous person in the room… but without love… I am nothing. ~ The Apostle Paul

As a society, as a culture, we value knowledge, gifts, and talents.  We even value and celebrate generosity.  Those are all good things. As someone with a Masters Degree in Education, I value instruction, training, and the educational process.  Knowledge truly is power.  It opens up doors.  Gifts and talents bring incredible contributions to our world.  Joy, encouragement, fulfillment.  Those with generous hearts can often be game changers in the lives of others.

However… in a vacuum, or without good and noble character, those things can be used destructively.  To bring shame on others, to put others down, to manipulate people.  That is why the Apostle Paul said what he said.  Character must come first.  Specifically, Godly character, a heart that is full of love.  If we are the best at everything else, but have not love… we have missed the point of life.

Seek first to love… love God… and love others.  Then you can still do and be the best you can be… but it becomes not something you live for… not something that defines you.  Love does… and that makes all the difference.  And that’s … real life! ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
