“Hypocrites kick with their hind feet while licking with their tongues” Russian Proverb

In other words… they can tell a great story… flatter you with their words or even their actions… but their motives are less than honorable… they are lying to the core.  Crooked politicians do it… unscrupulous businesses or salespeople do it.  Just to name a few. However, before we point fingers… how often are we guilty of that, only in a much subtler way?  We often put on masks in our relationships, or through religion, so people do not see the “real us.”  And regarding religion… we often have a religious life… and we have a not-so-religious life.  And the two are often very different.  We get so used to living a double-sided, two-sided life, that it becomes normal.  We even start to convince ourselves that it is a good thing, the only way to survive… and the only way to earn our way to God.  But at the end of the day we are only “bad actors” … which is the Greek word, “hypocrite.”  Jesus, in His Sermon on the Mount, calls us to authenticity, genuineness, sincerity … to be totally and completely “clean, whole, pure in heart.”  No more masks, no more impure motives, no more bad acting… first between us and each other, but also between us and God.  All of this is made possible by His life, in us.  Rediscover that today! And that’s…real life.  ~Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
