Prayer… worship through song… confession… are they simply parts of a church service?  Are they something we just easily go through the motions on? Or, are they meant to be so much more?

As the New Testament writer, James, finishes his letter… he ends with a challenge for us to put those things into practice… but not so much in a religious, liturgical way.  We were meant to connect with and find our strength in our creator God, through Jesus.  In good times, through praise and song.  In bad times… times that are discouraging… through prayer and asking for God’s wisdom, comfort, peace, and discernment.  And in times where we’ve wandered … confession, seeking forgiveness. However, there are times when we are so weary, that we just don’t have the strength to pray on our own.  We just need someone to pray for us… on our behalf.  That takes a bit of vulnerability and trust.  The beauty is, that in each of those cases, God does the remarkable.  He brings strength and restoration.  He brings forgiveness, change, and new beginnings.  He brings real hope in the midst of a storm. He reminds us, that we need Him … and we need each other.  And yes, we can experience that in our church services… but it is oh so much more! And that’s… real life.  ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
