Misunderstanding is so powerful that it can break the most beautiful relationship in just a second. ~ Anonymous quote
Think of a few things over the years you’ve misunderstood, or misrepresented in your mind. Got a few? What was your first clue that something wasn’t quite right? What turned the light on in your head? For me…it was pain! Many years ago, when I used to wear contact lenses, I was having great difficulty in removing the one from my left eye. I was convinced that somehow my contact had actually fused to my eye! After an hour of frustration and tugging that resulted in a painful, bloodshot eye, my wife asked a brilliant question, “are you sure it’s still in there?” Upon further review, I discovered she was right! A simple misunderstanding caused so much pain and discomfort – imagine that!
Many of us have misunderstandings about situations, with other people… and it often results in broken relationships. That happens often with God, too. Our misunderstanding of God often results in pain and discomfort, from poor choices, to living in fear, to being a mean jerk (if we think that’s who God is). Jesus came that we may “see” – to see a picture of who God really is… to clear up our misunderstandings, to restore that broken relationship. May that begin to heal all of our other misunderstandings. And that’s…real life. ~ Pastor Steve – Eaglebrook Church
